Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival and the Legend of Qu Yuan
Celebrate the beginning of winter with a family friendly after-hours visit to Lan Yuan, the Southern Hemisphere’s only authentic Chinese Garden.
Get hands on –
Learn about the traditions of the holiday with instructor Feishaung Zhang, make your own Dragon Boat Festival bracelet, featuring five colour threads, a traditional craft believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits, make and embellish a hanging zong zi style decoration, or draw inspiration from the scenery for watercolour pencil drawing.
Explore –
Explore the garden for items linked to the legend of poet Qu Yuan. Can you find zongzi, a calligraphy brush, flag and a dragon boat hiding amongst the gardens foliage? Or spot the dragons hiding through the foliage?
Watch a movie under the stars –
Begin your weekend with some quality time for the whole family. Dress up warm and join us for an outdoor movie night under the stars —kicking off at 5.30pm! Bring your deck chairs, blankets, and a picnic dinner, to sit back, relax, and enjoy the 1998 animated movie Mulan.
Get cosy with tea and hot chocolate –
There’ll be hot Jasmine and lychee black tea available for purchase, as well as hot chocolate and marshmallows!
Bring your own mug or keep cup to fill it up. The tea shop will also have a range of juices and pre-packaged traditional Chinese snacks for sale.
