Join us at Toitū to celebrate Puaka Matariki and the rising of the midwinter Matariki star cluster heralding the start of the new year, and a time for remembrance.

Learn about the nine whetū (stars) while you craft your own star inspired box or decorate a wooden star as a token of remembrance.

Pōhutukawa is the star that cares for and helps prepare the spirits of all those who have passed. After completing your box, perhaps place messages and items which remind you of your loved ones who have passed inside the box and let Pōhutukawa carry them safely on their journey.
